Genotyping system automates labor intensive protocols for Human Genome Research project.

CHALLENGE

The National Genome Research Institute (part of the National Institutes of Health) led the Human Genome Project which was completed in April 2003. NHGRI wanted an automated system to enable multiple research protocols to be executed on a single system and a single software interface.

RESULTS DELIVERED

Code Refinery developed an Automated Genotyping System for NHGRI. This system automated a variety of complex PCR setup and preparation functions used in genotyping. This system also provided the ability to use multiple plate formats and optimized assays with a plate.

Increased efficiency. A single-user interface automated up to 13 protocols which provided ability to use mixed 384 and 96 well plates and considerably reduced PCR setup and protocol execution times. The system which was installed in 1997 is still a major tool used in the research and development in cancer genetics.
